Charles A. Straub

Charles A. “Chuck” Straub, a beloved former Board member of the Coastline College Foundation, made a lasting impact on both the college and the community. He served on the Foundation Board from 1997 to 2014, dedicating nearly two decades to supporting the mission of Coastline College. In recognition of his contributions, the Foundation established a scholarship in his memory following his passing in 2017.

Chuck was a graduate of Western Michigan University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He furthered his studies in industrial relations at the University of California, Long Beach. In 1961, Chuck began a distinguished career with Douglas Aircraft Company, which later became McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Corporation and, eventually, Boeing. Over the course of 36 years, he held various leadership roles, including Senior Director of Human Resources, where he oversaw a vast array of responsibilities, including labor relations, staffing, training, and human resources services for thousands of employees across multiple states.

Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck was known for his passion for orchids, a hobby he nurtured since 1965. He maintained an impressive collection of over 600 plants and was an active member of the American Orchid Society. Chuck’s love for orchids took him to remote jungles in Mexico and New Guinea in search of rare species. His interest in cooking and entertaining also allowed him to share his love for good food and fellowship with family and friends.

Chuck’s warm spirit, commitment to service, and dedication to the Coastline College Foundation will not be forgotten. He passed away on November 28, 2017, at the age of 81. He is survived by his son, Scott Straub, and his grandchildren, Adam and Amanda Straub. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The scholarship established in his memory continues to reflect his enduring legacy and passion for supporting others in their educational journeys.
